Mordred - Creator of the Wiki and a very friendly guy. As he no longer plays the game and, in round 7, hung up his banstick, Mordred often passes through chat and the forums to say a friendly greeting to his friends.

Snuffles - Administrator of the Wiki and a Uwars Moderator, Snuffles is a friendly, funny guy. He spends his spare time drawing (or so it seems), and making the next picture for his "Interactive Story" threads in Fun & Games.

Beeasyonme - Better known as Necron Lord, Beeasyonme is a Wiki administrator and is a very friendly guy to have around. He enjoys helping others and has a considerably larger list of contributions compared to any of the other Wiki staff.

SpecOpsElite- Friendly guy who you can mail anytime for anything. Doesn't build at all, rather spends all time in forums, mostly Fun and Games and Non Game Related. Spends time at night worshiping Moderator and Developer statues he hand crafted. Known by most people and even though he doesn't build he understands the game well.

Thornton - New to the whole Wiki thing, Thornton proofs and edits as he sees fit. Able to rewrite legal briefs at the age of 15, he has a way with manipulating words to make a sentence flow. Once holding Moderator status under the name Ghengis, Thornton has shed his old skin and changed his attitude. He's quick to crack a joke or make an inappropriate comment, but its all meant in fun.

Doogan- Moderator of the Wiki, a 4 round veteran (!!) of uwars and an all around nice guy. Doogan is a great player who is helpful and fun to be with. He has an awesome personality and is a pleasure to talk to. He is liked by many uwars players and is also known for his witty tongue and helpful hints.

UWars Chat

If the Staff are wild animals, then the Uwars chat is surely the jungle. This is where all the knowns and unknowns of the Universe come to spam, just talk, or cyber. If you want to be known throughout the game then this is the first place you should go, you will find that if you are funny and nice you will have no trouble finding an alliance, but if you spam and swear, than you will have trouble getting your worth over 10k.(Not a Threat)

Get in there and have fun, but watch for the Staff, they don't like rule breakers.

There are 3 different channels you can get into. General, Planet, and Alliance. You can change channels by clicking on the tabs at the top of the chat page.

General Chat

This is the main gathering area for Uwars players. Anybody with an account can get here. If you're looking for a friendly conversation this is the channel to go to.

Planet Chat

This is a channel exclusive to the people in your planet. While some planets are fabled to have discussions here, for most it is rarely used.

Alliance Chat

This channel is exclusive to members of your alliance. Strategizing, conversations, and anything else can happen in here, usually mod-free. (But follow the rules, because people can still report you!)

Chat Commands

Using various chat commands you can have a variety of effects on a few things in the chat. UTML also works in here, for the most part, with only a few parts being left out.

Chat commands include:

/color <hex code> - Changes the color of what you type until leave chat See below for the color chart. (Do not include < and > when typing hex code)
Ex: /color d2691e
/bold - Makes your text bold until you close the window/tab.
/afk - Sets your status to "afk." (Away from keyboard.)
/back - Removes afk status. (Typing something and saying it removes afk status.)
/me - Makes your username go into action (Ex: *Wiki is helping many people*)
/msg Name, message - Send a private message to this person. Example: /msg Necron Lord, Testing . Note the comma must be there.
/startmsg Name
or
/msgstart Name
- Begin a private message session. All of your following messages will be directed to this person.
/stopmsg
or
/msgstop
- Ends a private message session.
/topic UWars Wiki Rocks! - Set's the topic for the chatroom. General Chat is set by developers and moderators. Your Planet chat is set by the Planet Leader. Alliance is set by the alliance leader.

Chat Rules

Rules in chat are the same as rules in the forums, and there is usually always a moderator present. So be sure to know the rules.

The rules in chatroom, however, can be different. Any language deemed unacceptable by a moderator or developer can lead to a ban. Usually a warning is given out to the person that made the infraction. If the person still does not abide by the moderators commands to stop preforming the infraction or does not take action on any other of the moderators commands, the person can be banned. Bans can last for a few hours to forever, depending on the level of the infraction.

White (invisible) writing is NOT an infraction in the chatroom. The color of the text must be very visible, or else you will be warned by the moderator, and it could lead to a ban.

Domination

Domination is by far the most popular UWars game type, the main reason being is that its free! Domination offers a simple, competitive game, in which the objective is to be one of the five highest worths at the end of the round.

Worth is measured through a variety of things, it can be obtained by expanding your empire via the building of structures, military force and the storing of resources.

One of the main reasons that Domination is so popular is because it is a fun, challenging game. It has a large social network in which you can create alliances and make friends which will aid you throughout your conquest of the universe!

Juggernaut

Juggernaut is a new type of game recently announced on Uwars. It is one of five game types displayed publicly on the Uwars Main page, but like Flags, has not been introduced as an active game style. The details on Juggernaut are still unknown, and no official announcements have been made on it's condition.

Note: The Juggernaut round will appear as top secret on the "Game Types" page, so don't expect to find information anywhere else.

Welcome the the Uwars Manual. This manual was written by a small group of players who thought it was finally time for one. In this manual, you will be able to educate yourself (and others) on various aspects of the game. From buildings, to a complete guide just for newbies. We hope that this guide fulfills all your needs and answers your questions.

So, first of all...

What is Universe Wars?

Universe Wars, or Uwars for short, is an online empire-building game (some may also understand MMORPG). It has an expansive population, busy forums, and a (mostly) friendly chat.

A wide variety of people gather on Uwars to build an army, team together (alliances), and destroy their enemies. A wide variety of units, as well as the Spycraft feature and much more, makes it a game definitely worth playing.

Gameplay lasts, for a round, about 3 months long. At the end of each round, the three best players are awarded prizes.

Mordred's Guide to Noobdom

Just started the game, eh? Wondering what you should do first and how to do it? I don't blame you, UWars is a complicated game, and here I will attempt to guide you through the first steps to becoming a top player.

If there are any confusing terms in this guide, enter the term into the search box on the panel to the left.

Overall Goal: Reach the third age.

Step one: Get fifty workers

Why do I need all my workers? Because the key to advancing ages and gaining worth is to pull in as many resources as you can. Here is how you should go about getting all your workers:

First tick you should build as many workers as you can, that's the most important thing. Then, build four farms so you can get more food ASAP. Now its just a waiting game, wait until you're farms and workers are done, make sure you are always using all your workers, and explore to find more farms so you can make more workers faster.

-Every time you get >25 food make another worker!
-If at anytime during this you have 300 gold, build a school and you can skip step two!

Step two: Get a School.

If your workers have already gotten you 300 gold you can build it right away. As soon as it is built put 14 workers on learning, it is important that you only have 14, not 15. The 15th won't contribute because each worker gives .5 knowledge, and that extra .5 gets rounded down!

Step three: Build a University.

1. Research both Electricity and Higher Education.
2. Get 700 gold and build the University.

Step four: Explore!

Now that you have almost everything you need to advance to the next age, you just need to wait for enough of that most precious resource Knowledge! This is the long part! Just sit down, explore, and enjoy the forums and chat wile you wait for the 2000 knowledge needed to advance.

Step five: Simple
Advance! ^-^

Advancement takes 25 ticks, during these 25 ticks you can take vital steps necessary to preforming well in the second age. What I recommend you do first is build some Silo's to support the food you will need to produce workers in the second age. Workers are 100 food each, so you will need plenty of room. While you are building silos, put 20 or so workers on food production and save up that food. Use those extra thirty workers as you see fit. I try to keep 14 on knowledge, but that's just me.

Pro tip: When you have five ticks left in advancement, build 10 or 15 houses (depending on the amount of food you have to support the population). At the same tick you advance, the houses will start producing free population for you. This gets you your workers even faster.

Construct2

Constructing, as well as demolishing is important (well, not necessarily the latter). Buildings have different costs and building times (measured in ticks), for example; the fastest, a silo, needs only 2 ticks while one of the slowest, a University, takes 10 ticks. A different amount of gold, iron and wood are needed for different buildings. More buildings are available to build as your empire advances. Bruce "gets it done" Hanes can also demolish buildings for more land at a small cost.

Explore

Stuart the Great
Exploring is an important part of UWars, as it is the only way to get extra land and resources for your empire. You have to pay your workers in gold, food, and oil (Advanced Age) in order to send them on a mission, and their fee increases as you advance. The more land you have the better. Land is used for building things such as houses, mines, silos and all of the other buildings too. As you advance, your need for land grows as you will require new buildings such as Barracks, Tank Storages, Hangars and defensive buildings like ADS and Plasma Cannons.

Once you reach the Advanced Age (third and final age), an additional cost to explore is required in the form of oil.

You are able to send out as many explorers as you like, provided you have the available workers (max: 1000 workers). With the new addition, you can send them on how long they travel (max: look below). You can bring them back at any time by cancelling their mission, but their discoveries will be reduced. To cancel an exploration, simply click on the "recall" button, and you will receive a partial refund of your resources based on how long your explorers were traveling when they return. If a tick haven't passed and you want to cancel the explore, you will be refunded fully and the workers will be returned immediately.

1.		Logo - The head logo redirects you back to the "My Empire" page in the round you were in. For example, if you were viewing Game Forums in Round 9, you will return to "My Empire" page in Round 9.
2.		Personal Management - This portion provides you the links to reading Mail, News, Bookmarks, and Friends. Click on the links for more information.
3.		Round Switching - By clicking the down arrow, you are able to switch between rounds easily.
4.		The Navigation Bar - Using this you can get to everywhere you need to in the game. At a click of your mouse you can be at the Explore, Construct, Research, Military, Spycraft, Market, Galaxy Page, or back to your My Empire page again.
5.		Get PLUS - An advertisement for non-PLUS members to get a PLUS account which provides a greater advantage. By clicking it, the link redirects you to an advertisement within the game, explaining what bonuses you will get by becoming a PLUS member. Click here for more information.
6.		Next Tick - This provides the amount of time until the next click proceeds. When the tick reaches 00:00, one tick will pass. Ticks for non-PLUS members are 15 minutes while PLUS members are 10 minutes.
7.		Round Notification - This notification normally doesn't appear on running rounds. If the round ended and is currently in Chaos mode, it will notifiy you that the round is in Chaos Mode with 5 minute ticks and no 50% rule. Also, another notification takes this place before a round starts. When a new round is set up, members are able to join the round but ticks won't be running. A new notification in this place will tell the members when the tick officially starts and the current game time/date.
8.		Resources and Ranking - This area will show how much of each resource you have as well as the number of tokens you have. It also shows your empire's worth and your ranking against all the other people playing UWars. With the new Round 10 batch update, the Alliance link is provided. By clicking the red link, you will be redirected to your alliance page.
9.		The dialogue box on the explore page shows you how many workers you have available to send exploring and how much it will cost you per worker to send them on their long quest to find you land. The input box is for you to say how many workers you wish to send exploring, but remember, you can only send free workers exploring. It also allows you to input how long they should travel (max: look below). Click the calculate button and it will tell you the amount of resources required for the travel you inputted. The length of their travel depends on your explore skill rank. If you are lucky you might find a report that you have found some treasure worth x gold.
10.		Community Bar - This allows you to access the forums, chat and look up other empires. Please show proper respect and follow the rules when speaking to others on UWars. Alliances Game Forum Game Chat Empire Search Game Rankings Exit
11.		Calculations - These are the results after calculating the amount of resources required for the inputted amount of workers to explore. It also provides a reason why the entered amount of workers cannot make the exploration.
12.		Time - Tells the current game date and game time.
13.		Current Expeditions - This provides the current expeditions that are exploring. You can click the recall button to end the explore, which the exploreres will return in a certain amount of ticks. However, the amount of land returned will be lowered. If there is a Cancel link, it means the first tick haven't passed since you assigned the exploration. The workers will be stopped from exploring and you can assign these workers to do things immediately. You will be refunded fully but there will be no land explored.
14.		Account/Mode - Tells the type of account you currently possess. If it is the NON-PLUS picture, by clicking it, you will be redirected to a PLUS advertisement. It also provides the information on how long a tick stimulates.
15.		Playing Now - By clicking the number, you will be redirected to a summary of the active players and people that are online.
16.		The Vote Link - Support UWars by voting for it and receive a free portion of land! The size of the reward depends on your Explore Skill Rank. If you already voted during the day, you will not be rewarded until the next day or when it gives you the message from the first picture.
17.		End Footer - Provides the links to the Orbit Forums, Help!, and Game Rules. It also provides the link the Hellbored Entertainment website, the main site that owns Universe Wars.

Creating Alliances

How much does it cost?

An alliance can be created by any player of Universe Wars. It requires 10,000 knowledge ( ) to successfully make the alliance.

How do I join/leave an alliance?
A password is required for people to join the alliance. The member can leave their alliance any time they want. After clicking the Alliance button on the My Empire screen, just click the leave button.

How do I manage my alliance?

If you are an alliance leader, you can manage your alliance.

What is the alliance control room?

When you enter Manage Alliance, you enter the Alliance Control room, where you, the leader, are able to boot members out of your alliance, declare other alliances as an ally, as neutral, or at war, or remove a status on another alliance completely. Alliance leaders can also change new passwords, or delete the entire alliance. Alliance leaders also have moderator powers over their Alliance Forums. They can lock, delete, and sticky.

After the new batch of updates in Round 10, alliance leaders can appoint a Second-In-Command leader, and give titles to their alliance members.

What can I do now?

Well, now you have an alliance, and you have members (other than yourself) in it.. It's time to grow large and try to get your alliance to rank #1. If you want to check the ranking and/or worth of your alliance, simply click the "Game Rankings" button on the side bar, it will look like this;

Once you are on the rankings page, click the "Highest Alliance Worth" link, it will look like this;

And finaly, you will come to a page that looks like the picture below.

Notice: Your alliance will be highlighted blue.. So it is easy to find ;)

What are the alliance restrictions?

The most obvious restriction upon Creating Alliances, is that you must not be in any other alliance while creating one.
The password is limited to only 10 characters.
As of Round 8, all alliances are based to only 40 member empires, the leader included.
To upgrade:

60 members - 5 tokens
80 members - 10 tokens
100 members - 15 token

As of Round 10, all alliances start with a maximum of 20 members. You can increase this number to a maximum of 65 members by using tokens to increase it at certain intervals.
The Alliance name can only be 3 to 9 characters long, using only letters (Capital and lowercase is not an issue).

Are you Human

This page plays an important role, the role of keeping bots out of the game. Bots are programs that will repeatedly try to do one thing, even when the player is not online. The "Are You Human" page keeps out bots by putting a picture of a number on the screen that has a corresponding link which needs to be clicked in order to continue. As simple as it may seem, it gets annoying to all the players who don't cheat. But, it is effective and bans you if you click the wrong number multiple times. So be sure to get it right on the first few tries!

Also,if you have problems seeing the picture, try pressing F5. What this does is refreshes your page and attempts to reload the image. You may also click on the refresh tab on your browser. It might take several tries to do this, but eventually, you'll see the number that needs to be clicked.

The "Are You Human" page was updated in the batch of Round 10 Updates. These upgrades will prevent new technologies of building bots to cheat in the game. If you discover a possible player using bots/macros, report them to Staff immediately! People caught assisting the cheaters will have their account(s) locked with no exceptions.

What do I do?
It is very simple. All you have to do is click on the number that it tells you to in the image. Here is an example:

What is this?
The human check page is designed to prevent players for using programs to perform certain tasks such as:
• Explore land
• Train units
• Construct buildings
• Attack

Because programs can not read the what is shown in the image they will not work. We want to keep the game as fair as possible.

How often does it come up?
You will have to the random number every 2 hours if you are doing such tasks as exploring land, constructing buildings etc.

What will happen if I continue to enter the wrong text?
Your account will be automatically frozen.

The image isn't showing up!
There is a couple of things you can try if you can not see the image.

1. Hit Ctrl+F5 a few times. If this doesn't work, move onto the next step.

2. Make sure your browser is allowing images and your firewall isn't blocking them. If everything seems fine, go on to step 3.

3. It's possible that there could be an error in your computer's registry which is stopping your browser(s) from reading the correct image headers when the image is formed with php. Try downloading and running WinSock XP. If this does not work, please move on to step 4.

4. File a support ticket (Account Settings -> Customer Support). The staff will be happy to try and resolve this issue for you.

Spycraft

Introduction

Spycraft is a recent addition into Universe Wars gameplay. Using a number of new ground units and satellites, users can gain a degree of knowledge about the victim's empire, steal a portion of gold each tick, or even sabotage certain buildings. Be warned, though! Others can send these at you too, and they only way you can get rid of them is by researching Counter Intelligence!

Upon introduction, spycraft changed many aspects of the game, forcing some players to completely rethink their strategy.

Trainable Units:

Red Squad: Provides a short military report. The reports are on the amount of 3 different random types of troops of the target. It is shown on the Spycraft Summary, not the same as a battle report through News. (MAX: 5 at a time)

Elite Ops Blue: Works to destroy an enemy command center. (MAX: 5 at a time)

Elite Ops Green: Destroys an enemy weather control system. (MAX: 5 at a time)

Mole Worker: Steals a small percentage of gold away from an enemy every tick. (MAX: 5 at a time)

Tactical Team (Cost: 60,000 gold, 20 free citizens)
Tactical teams can be sent to your allied empires to help defend their Command Centre's. Training of this elite squad isn't easy, and only 50% make it through. They take 2 ticks to get into position, and will stay for 3 ticks. Most teams have a 30% chance of stopping Blue Ops from destroying a Command Centre. They will report all successes and failures to you immediately. (MAX: 2 at a time)

Buildable Units:

Spy Satellite: Stationed at your target, the satellite will tell you if they are attacking anybody. (Max: 5 at a time)

Stealth Spy Satellite: More costly to make, but harder to detect than a Spy Satellite. (Max: 5 at a time)

Communications Satellite: Can be placed on an ally's empire to tell you when an attack has been launched at them. (Max: 5 at a time)

Jamming Satellite: Temporarily disables the target's Communications Satellite stationed at their empire which the ally will not receive warnings. The target can only be in the same alliance as you! (Max: 5 at a time)

Counter Intelligence

Counter Intelligence is the only way you are able to rid yourself of spies other empires have placed on you. Once researched, it will make it more likely that spies will be detected when placed on your empire, and a name may even be provided so you can fight back!

If you suspect a spy is in your empire, you should run a Spy Sweep as soon as you are able. This takes a sum of gold which grows or shrinks depending on how big your empire is.
Remember: The longer a spy is in your empire, the harder it is to get rid of!

Gaining the Spycraft/Counter Intelligence Abilities

To gain the ability to send spies at your enemies, there is a chain of research subjects and buildings that your empire must first undergo.

First build a School, followed by researching Diplomacy. This leads to allowing Communications to be researched in the Second Age, followed by Military Intelligence, followed by Spycraft. At this point you must build a Central Intelligence. Counter Intelligence also becomes available at this point, and you should level this as high as you can very quickly.

Now you can make the Trainable Units.
